Recommendation Tool

Product Finder

Most buying guides answer the question "what is best" without asking what your constraints are. This one starts from constraints. Answer six questions and we will show you the shortest list that actually satisfies them - plus the reasoning, so you can discard any recommendation you disagree with.

01

What is the main thing you are trying to solve?

02

How would you describe your sensitivity?

03

What is your budget ceiling?

04

Does it need to be wearable without holding it?

05

Do you want phone app control?

06

How important is low-frequency, rumbly output to you?

Why this asks about constraints first

The most common failure in this category is a purchase made against a generic "best overall" list. The reader's actual binding constraint - a shared wall, a $60 budget, reduced sensitivity, a partner who needs remote control - is treated as an afterthought. The result is a product that reviews well and does not solve the problem in front of a particular person.

So this tool inverts the order. Constraints are collected first and treated as hard filters where they are genuinely hard. Priorities are collected second and used for ranking. The catalogue is small on purpose: every entry is a product with a published review on this site, which means every recommendation can be audited against its own data rather than against our summary of it.

How to read the results

Element What it means
Fit score A relative score against your weighted priorities. It is not a product rating and is not comparable across different sets of answers.
Why this matched The attributes that carried the most weight in placing this product. If these are the wrong attributes, your answers rather than the product are what needs changing.
Constraint warnings Any stated constraint the product sits at the edge of, such as price band or app availability. Shown rather than hidden.
Full review link Every result can be verified. Nothing in the shortlist is based on data we have not published.

What this tool deliberately does not do

It does not account for medical conditions, it does not tell you whether a product is appropriate for you personally, and it does not rank products we have not reviewed. A shortlist is a starting point for reading, not a substitute for reading. Where a choice interacts with a health condition, a diagnosis or post-surgical recovery, the relevant conversation is with a clinician who knows your history - not with a recommendation engine.

Questions about the finder

Each product in our catalogue is tagged against measurable attributes such as measured noise band, motor character, precision versus surface area, power ceiling, app control, wearability, price band and how forgiving the fit is. Your answers are converted into weights, and products are scored against those weights. The reasoning behind each match is printed so you can disagree with it.

Hard constraints are honoured. If you set a budget ceiling and require app control, we will not pad the list with products that fail either condition. A short list that meets your constraints is more useful than a long list that does not.

No. The catalogue is limited to products covered by a full review on this site, so every recommendation can be verified against published data. That deliberately excludes a large part of the market, and we would rather show that limitation than recommend something we cannot substantiate.

No. Every calculation runs in your browser. Nothing is transmitted, logged or stored, and the page works with JavaScript running entirely offline after load. There is no analytics event attached to your answers.
