Tools and Calculators

Some decisions in this category cannot be answered by a star rating. Whether a product is audible through a wall depends on your building, not on the product alone. Whether a product suits you depends on your constraints, not on its average score. These tools work on those two questions directly.

Privacy: every tool on this page runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is transmitted, stored or logged.

Noise Threshold Calculator

Estimate whether a device will be audible in the next room, using its measured sound pressure level, the barrier type, the distance and the ambient noise floor on the other side.

  • Separates source level from transmitted level
  • Accounts for the frequency penalty that lightweight walls apply to low-frequency output
  • Includes a field-performance allowance for real construction

Product Finder

Answer six questions about your constraints and priorities, and get the shortest list of reviewed products that actually satisfies them - with the reasoning printed alongside each match.

  • Constraints are treated as hard filters, not suggestions
  • Shortlists stay short rather than padding to a fixed length
  • Every result links to the underlying full review

Battery Runtime Estimator

Model how charging habits, storage temperature and depth of discharge affect the usable service life of a lithium-polymer device. In development.

Until it ships, the chemistry is covered in our battery and charging guide.

Why we build tools instead of more listicles

A ranked list is useful only to a reader whose situation resembles the one the writer imagined. The moment your constraint is unusual - a 1970s apartment with a shared duct, a budget of sixty dollars, a partner three time zones away, a condition that makes vibration uncomfortable above a low threshold - a generic ranking stops answering your question.

Tools do something a list cannot: they let the reader supply their own parameters and see how the conclusion changes. That is also a useful discipline for us. Writing the acoustic model forced us to be explicit about which factors we weight, how much, and where the estimate breaks down. A ranking can hide those assumptions. A calculator cannot.

What the tools will not do

Limitation Why it matters
They do not replace a clinician Neither tool accounts for a diagnosis, medication, surgical history or pelvic health condition. Those conversations belong with a professional who knows your history.
They do not measure your building The acoustic model uses published barrier ratings plus a standard field allowance. Flanking paths are specific to your construction and can dominate the result.
They are limited to reviewed products The finder ranks only products with a published review on this site, so a large part of the market is simply absent rather than ranked low.
They are not personalised advice Output is a starting point for reading the underlying review, not a recommendation of what you personally should buy.
